See The Light

Updated: Oct 29, 2019

Who doesn't love Summer? The Summer Solstice marks the beginning of the celebratory time when we can enjoy the longest days and shortest nights. Nature struts her sheer magnificence as we revel in the availability of natural light-- the mood is festive to say the least. We gather with friends al fresco, tanned bodies blissfully exposed; just the presence of light makes us feel healthier. We plan vacations and weddings and pack-in all we can while the weather is warm and the "livin' is easy".

As part of nature, we humans have an intimate relationship with sunlight. We know it is life-sustaining in its role in photosynthesis and we can feel how the availability of light effects our mood, the rhythms in our body and our health. We are literally made up of light.

So I like to kick off the Summer with a visualization about light, a kind of annual ritual, that I can then carry with me through all of the myriad activities of the season with true and visceral appreciation for the significance of light in our lives. As you follow this visualization, take your time and let the bodily sensations unfold.

  • Sit comfortably and relax into your body. Notice a gentle flow of breath as you inhale and exhale, inhale and exhale.

  • Tune into your intuition as you align heart, mind and body, and follow your breath to the space inside the center of your mind. Notice your mind quieting and your awareness increasing.

  • Relax your forehead and allow your lips and tongue to release. Inhale and exhale, inhale and exhale. Breathe into the gentle rhythm of your breath as your lungs expand and release like the waves in the ocean.

  • Breathe into your heart and expand in the heart center. Imagine your breath is a light empowering all of your bodily functions. Follow the light through your arms, hands and fingers, down your spine, into your torso, your belly, into your thighs, your legs and grounding down to the bottom of your feet.

  • Inhale and exhale, inhale and exhale. Your cells are made of strings and these strings respond to vibrations. Your thoughts and feelings are vibrations. It's like your body can hear your thoughts and your cells can feel your feelings.

  • Imagine what is possible and breathe into the space between your cells-- this is where miracles can happen. Breathe and imagine the light shining in between each cell in your body. What color is the light? What does this light feel like? Feel your skin tingling with sensation.

  • Each cell has intelligence-- they know how to reproduce, how to protect, how to heal. They create you as you create them. They know what to do to heal, rejuvenate and restore balance. We are going to remind our cells how to heal, how to rejuvenate. Inhale, and exhale, inhale and exhale.

  • Feel your heart calling you and bring your hand to your heart and breathe. Let your cells know what matters to you, what you love. Speak to yourself with compassion and gratitude and feel the light shining in between your cells-- healing, rejuvenating light. As you breathe, feel your inner strength calling you now.

  • Bring your other had to your belly, your core, aligning your heart with your inner strength. Inhale and exhale, inhale and exhale.

  • Expand your energy, feeling your light shine even brighter as you open even more to the wisdom of your body. Breathe and find the strength you need to let go of any thoughts that do not support you or serve you in your balance, your healing. Inhale and exhale.

  • Imagine the people, the places and the activities that you really love and fill your heart with all of the things that you love and feel your heart smiling. Feel how this gentle smile shifts the biochemistry in your body. Imagine your body flowering with health and strength and good feelings. Feel the calling of your future.

  • Breathe into the fullness of who you are as a miracle of life, like a flower opening to the sunlight. Breathe into what feels good to you right now. Breathe into the power of your inner light.
