Peel the Onion

I'm interested in how each person's inimitable psychic energy manifests itself in the world. Already within us even before we are born, this fingerprint becomes our Personal Currency-- our medium of exchange in our job, our relationships, everything that distinguishes our value in society.

In order to be truly fulfilled and realize our unique potential, we need to understand the many dimensions of this multi-faceted aspect of ourselves. We all inherit a set of beliefs about ourselves from our parents, community and circumstances we are born into. Ultimately though, we have to engage in a process of self-discovery to reveal just what constitutes the full spectrum of who we are.

Doing the two exercises below, will bring you to a better understanding of who you are and what makes you an asset to those around you. Ultimately, this awareness is what will provide the greatest happiness in our lives.

In taking an Inventory of Your Personal Currency you will first be creating a picture of yourself including your strengths, challenges and current goals in your life. The second part will be framing this picture according to your feelings of self-worth and satisfaction/happiness.

1. OFF THE RECORD- First create a list of all of your attributes and challenges. Be intuitive and honest; usually the first things that come to mind are the most revealing. (Ex., I'm a people person but I feel claustrophobic in crowds. I'm a hard worker, a good mother and have a strong social conscience. I need to connect with my body daily to feel whole. I struggle with self-doubt and anxiety. I'm responsible with money but not that creative with it. I would like to help other people be happier and healthier. My dream is to be a part of a like-minded community of embodied seekers, etc.). Try to think of all aspects of yourself, good and not so good in making your list, but make sure there are more positive than negative qualities.

2. LO AND BEHOLD- Now answer the following questions with as much detail as possible-- put some real thought into it. Some answers may include multiple aspects:

• I am a competent and successful in my_______________________

• I am happiest when I _____________________________________

• My achievements make me feel worthwhile because_____________

• I am strongest when I _____________________________________

• My positive outlook for my future includes____________________

• My friends and relatives appreciate me for my__________________

• I like myself because I am__________________________________

• I feel fulfilled and confident when____________________________

Really understanding ourselves requires a deep dive, but this exercise is a beginning in discovering your personal currency. Ideally it should help you see how you can design your life to feel even more actualized and satisfied. It is an important step in self-appreciation and in receiving the abundance and fulfillment you deserve. It's great to start the week with new insights about yourself. And as you Mind Your Body, listen to your gut instincts about who you really are.
